If you can’t be with the one you love then love the one you’re with. A guided Mindfulness meditation by Alison Prideaux
Very often we cannot love ourselves because a little voice tells us we are not quite good enough, not quite virtuous enough, not quite healthy or fit or disciplined enough. So we cannot “be with the one we love,” the one we WOULD love if we were a better or improved version of ourselves. Mindfulness encourages us to love ourselves as we are, to “love the one we’re with”. Funnily enough, we might find that from this place of kind self acceptance we flourish and become nearer to that better self that has eluded us for so long ! Having said all that, mindfulness is not about getting somewhere, it is about being where we are, however by being here in the present moment with ourselves in acceptance things do evolve in interesting and new ways. Perhaps we find that more happiness, giving and generosity arises from this place of kind self-acceptance than it does from the stance of “shoulds and ought to”s. Love the one you’re with and see what evolves.
