Alison teaches Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction as an 8 week part time course.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is the largest and best-known stress reduction programme in the world. It was developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical department over 25 years ago. It has benefited people suffering from stress, stress-related conditions and chronic pain as well as many others who’s needs were less acute but who sought a better understanding of self and an improved quality of life.
The UK’s National Institute for Clinical Excellence recommends the training as a means to significantly reduce the incidence of depressive relapse. The core skill that you will learn is ‘mindfulness’ – a way of paying attention, on purpose and non-judgementally, to what goes on in the present moment in your body, mind, and the world around you. Mindfulness can enable you to see things differently, undoing mental and physical knots and tensions. It can increase your sense of personal confidence, of having more options and more strength to face challenges. It can bring you into the “Now” and from the “Now” a better quality of life develops.
